Corriere della Sera published on 25 March 2023 the data on regional budget that was developed by REP together with Fondazione Etica. Many different indicators have been analysed, such as for example the regional spending and payment collection capacity and the regional public debt per capita.

The data clearly shows that Regions with a special statute don’t perform better than the ones with an ordinary one.

The main factor that impacts regional performance seems to be economic wealth: a high GDP per capita is not sufficient for a Region to manage well their budget, but at the same time it is highly improbable that a Region with low GDP is able to perform well.
