We continue our analysis of the digitalization process of Italian municipalities through indicators built on the basis of data published by the municipalities themselves.

These are mostly expenditure indicators, which is a critical issue: high spending on ICT cannot automatically be interpreted as an indicator of the quality of the investment made.

The per capita expenditure on ICT recorded in municipal budgets provides a picture of a country that has begun to believe in the importance of digitalization. Indeed, on average, Italian municipalities allocated just under 8 euros per citizen in 2021, while this amount exceeded 9 euros per citizen in 2022.
